Bishop of Providence

Bishop Bruce Alan Lewandowski, C.Ss.R. was appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, as the tenth Bishop of Providence on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. A native of Toledo, Ohio, His Excellency was born to the late Frances (Czelusta) and Robert Lewandowski, the second of four children to grow up on their farm.

The Most Rev. Thomas J. Tobin was installed as the eighth Bishop of the Diocese of Providence on May 31, 2005 in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence.  Often stating that he was “not ordained to be irrelevant,” Bishop Tobin has championed many social justice causes during his episcopacy.

The Most Rev. Robert C. Evans, D.D., J.C.L.

 

Auxiliary Bishop of Providence Emeritus
“Spe Salvi”

 

The Most Rev. Robert C. Evans was installed as the seventh Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Providence on October 15, 2009. Bishop Tobin said of Bishop Evans upon his installation: “He possesses remarkable gifts and talents, and has demonstrated time and time again his commitment as a faithful Priest of Jesus Christ."

The Rev. Monsignor Anthony Mancini

 

Rector of the Cathedral

of Saints Peter and Paul

 

Monsignor Mancini was named Rector of The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in 2004. In addition to serving as Cathedral Rector, Monsignor Mancini founded the Gregorian Concert Choir in 1987 to preserve the rich legacy of traditional church music while continuing to expand their repertoire with contemporary sacred choral works.

Mr. Philip Faraone, K.G.C.H.S.

 

Organist of the Cathedral

of Saints Peter and Paul

 

Mr. Philip Faraone, KGCHS was named Organist of The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in 1997. Mr. Faraone has performed both nationally and internationally on many concerts and tours. Mr. Faraone also teaches theology at The Prout School, Wakefield, Rhode Island, a co-educational Catholic college preparatory high school.

Sister Elizabeth Castro, H.M.S.P.

 

Director of the Office for Religious

of the Diocese of Providence

 

Sister Elizabeth is a member of the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Word who were invited by Bishop Tobin to serve in the Diocese of Providence in 2014. Currently, Sister Elizabeth coordinates sacramental preparation programs, liturgical ministries, and outreach for evangelization at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.

Joseph J. Plaud, Ph.D., M.A.T., K.C.H.S., K.M.

 

Director of Web Services of the

Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul

 

Dr. Joseph J. Plaud is a clinical and forensic psychologist. In addition to his doctoral training in psychology, Dr. Plaud has also received a Master of Arts in Theology degree from Saint Joseph's College in Standish, Maine. Dr. Plaud is also currently enrolled in the Doctor of Theology Program at Pontifex University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Plaud administers the website and online services for the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul.
